About the Music

Anna Clyne Overflow (10 minutes)
Inspired by Emily Dickinson’s By the Sea and a poem by the Persian mystic Rumi, Overflow imagines how the tiny movements of a pearl gently rolling on the ocean floor can set off huge, powerful waves on the surface above. Wind instruments are used to perfectly imitate the howling wind and crashing waves in this hugely enjoyable piece of music.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Serenade No. 10 for winds in B-flat major, K. 361/370a ‘Gran Partita’
Serenades were written as relaxed, light-hearted entertainment for dinner and garden parties. This classic of the genre from Mozart will calm the mind and refresh the senses with its easy beauty so sit back, relax and let yourself absorb an hour of pure musical perfection.

“All told, these young players under the tight direction of Peter Manning demonstrated arresting command of these [musical] gems .”
