Meet Our New Principal Conductor

Oliver Cope Principal Conductor

We have news! There’s been a lot happening behind-the-scenes at Chromatica Orchestra over the summer and we can now reveal that we’ve appointed our first ever Principal Conductor.

Oliver was appointed following auditions in July and will work with us for the next two years, creating concerts and bringing them to life on the podium. 

We can’t wait to get started.

What do we hear when we listen beyond the surface? Sometimes music says more than you think. Behind Hermann’s terrifying soundtrack for the Hitchcock horror Psycho, the sumptuous melodies of Korngold’s Violin Concerto, and the januty celebrations of Shostakovich’s Symphony No 9 there are shadows: stories of survival, political oppression and the darker corners of the human mind.

From the charged intimacy of Osvaldo Golijov’s tango-inspired Last Round, to the irresistible push and pull of the accordion in a concerto performed by Ryan Corbett, and the joyous energy of Poulenc’s Sinfonietta, this is music in motion — alive with rhythm, movement and energy.
